Geek Week 2025: Ales & Scales
This year's Geek Week is all about that classic D&D favorite: DRAGONS!
Time & Location
Sep 01, 2025, 6:30 PM – Sep 23, 2025, 11:00 PM
TPK Brewing Co., 5051 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97215, USA
About the event
TPK Brewing Co. will be celebrating this year's Geek Week PDX by running multiple sessions of all ten adventures in the new Dragon Delves anthology release, along with hosting a dragon-themed actual play panel at Rose City Comic Con set in our house world of Val'Ruvina.
The event kicks off with a multi-table takeover with fresh level one adventurers taking on Death at Sunset together at 6:30 PM on Monday, 9/1, and continues with adventures 2-9 running daily between 9/5-9/14. The final adventure, Dragons of the Sandstone City, is a free multi-table event on Monday 9/22 for first 30 players to book 5+ other Ales & Scales adventures.
In addition to the gaming, we'll be celebrating the week with:
A two hour panel at Rose City Comic Con on Saturday, 9/6, from 4:15-6:15 PM, with GMs Dana, Kristina, Rowan, Sage, Law, and Max exploring Val'Ruvina's dragons (and giving all attending players an in-game Ales & Scales boon!)
A special dragon-themed painting class hosted by Corvid Creations on Monday, 9/15, at 6 PM
A night market downstairs on Monday, 9/22, from 6:00-11:00 PM featuring real life nerd loot alongside our Ales & Scales prizes (detailed below)
A special dragon-themed cocktail (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) available for the duration of the event
Corvid Creations will be partnering with us for the painting class, but Board Bard Games will be jumping back in this year as well -- they'll be printing a free character miniature for every player who purchases a Death at Sunset ticket by Sunday 8/17 and will have it ready for you at the session! This year we'll also have a special tie-in with 1985 Games' Geek Week event as one of the hosts of their Obojima Stamp Challenge, featuring a very thematic stamp...
Individual sessions for the event can be booked here, and this year each session attended will award you a coin at the end. The coins can be spent on:
1 Coin: Ales & Scales Poster
2 Coins: Dragon Miniature
3 Coins: A hardcopy of the Dragon Delves anthology book
4 Coins: A TPK challenge coin (works as one luck point for any game played with TPK GMs, regardless of system)
6 Coins: A TPK challenge coin, Dragon Delves book (with the variant cover, while supplies last), and Ales & Scales poster
Additionally, it takes 5 coins to earn access to the Dragons of the Sandstone City game and 8 coins to have your name permanently displayed as part of a dragon hoard we're building to commemorate the event. Our benevolent merchant Darmorkaas, The Hoard Taker, just needs to see the coins to ensure you're worthy of these two rewards and won't take your coins so that they can be spent elsewhere. Coins can also be redeemed for a free drink per coin, following all of our normal alcoholic beverage restrictions.
This year all events will take place at TPK Brewing Co., 5051 SE Hawthorne Blvd., Portland OR 97215, except for the Rose City Comic Con panel, which will be at Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd., Portland OR 97232, and will require a convention badge to attend.
How do I make a custom character for Ales & Scales?
You can build your character for the Ales & Scales using the point-buy method to generate ability scores and character options from any official D&D materials, defaulting to the 5e 2024 rules whenever available. Each adventure is designed for a specific character level, so you will need to level or de-level your character to match.
Your PC can keep any treasure gained from these adventures to use in any other adventure that's part of Ales & Scales. In addition, you gain additional starting equipment based on your level according to the following table, and you can spend starting gp on any equipment at list price. (Additional starting equipment does not carry over to other adventures.)
Level 2-4 (Baker’s Doesn’t, The Will of Orcus): Normal Starting Equipment, 1 Common Magic Item
Level 5-10 (For Whom the Void Calls, The Dragon of Najkir, The Forbidden Vale, Before the Storm): 650 GP plus Normal Starting Equipment, 1 Common and 1 Uncommon Magic Item
Level 11-16 (Shivering Death, A Copper for a Song, Dragons of the Sandstone City): 6,500 GP plus 2 Common, 3 Uncommon, and 1 Rare Magic Item
Can I use my character from The Leyfarer's Chronicle?
Yes! You will still need to adjust them to the correct level for each adventure, and you will use their current equipment without any additional starting equipment. Items and XP from Ales & Scales do not carry over to The Leyfarer's Chronicle.
