Intro Day at TPK
During this break in our house campaign, TPK's GMs will be setting aside a day to run introductory games in some of our favorite non-D&D rulesets!
Time & Location
Sep 22, 2024, 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM
TPK Brewing Co., 5051 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97215, USA
About the event
We love teaching new players Dungeons & Dragons (and just ran our 250th player through our Intro to 5th Edition!), but we also love introducing folks to other roleplaying systems that we think enable interesting storytelling. We've previously run Cypher System, Monster of the Week, and Avatar Legends intro games, but they can be tough to schedule, so this time we're taking advantage of the break between chapters of the house campaign to dedicate an entire day to intro gaming.
Games are booked separately on a per-seat basis (links below), no preparation, experience, or materials are required, and drop-ins are welcome as long as the session still has room day-of. Each session is 3 hours, costs $30, and is a ruleset that the GM running the game finds especially well-suited for longterm campaign play.
11 AM - 2 PM
- Teatime Adventures with GM Makena. "It's time to settle in with some good friends, a hot pot of tea, and something scrumptious from the oven as you enter the world of the Verdant Isles in Teatime Adventures, a cozy mystery tabletop RPG." Ages 8+
- Cypher System with GM Sage. Cypher System is a rules-light system with hidden depth that can power any setting and aims to solve some of D&D's classic pitfalls through the use of in-game cyphers and narrative character creation. This session uses The Strange (sci-fi) ruleset, but explores other rulesets such as Numenera (fantasy), Old Gods of Appalachia (folk horror), Claim the Sky (superhero), and Invisible Sun (magical surrealism) depending on the choices made by the group. Ages 16+
2 - 5 PM
- Starfinder 2E with GM Elliott. Paizo's science-fantasy hit Starfinder is getting the Pathfinder treatment and just had the draft of its Second Edition ruleset released at GenCon, so this will be our first 2E session with A Cosmic Birthday. "With dangerous creatures and ominous power surges threatening Absalom Station, the heroes must team up with the residents of Little Akiton to investigate these horrifying new foes, stop their meddling—and stay alive!" Ages 16+
- Cantrip with GM Kristina. "Cantrip is a Belonging Outside Belonging game about young witches attending a magical academy. Taking cues from Little Witch Academia, The Owl House and high school anime, as well as Witch Hat Atelier and Discworld’s Unseen University, players will build the world together during play, make trouble, learn magic, fall in love, make friends and try to make it through a full school year." Ages 13+
3 - 6 PM
- Magical Kitties Save the Day with GM Dana. Magical Kitties Save the Day is one of our top retail sellers, but we haven't gotten the chance to run a game yet! "An all-ages roleplaying game of cute, fierce, cunning kitties. Use your magical powers to solve problems and save humans from terrible troubles!" Ages 8+
- Dragonbane with GM Rowan. Dragonbane is a fast and lightweight classless d20 system. Capturing classic fantasy with modern design. Rumors speak of a haunting warhorn on moonless nights. Caravans and adventures disappear beneath the Ruins of the fearsome Robber Knight Castle. Can the adventures find the cause and put an end to the accursed place? Ages 13+
6 - 9 PM
- Through the Breach with GM Elliott. Through the Breach is a tabletop roleplaying game set in the miniatures wargame world of Malifaux. A setting of Victorian horror and wildwest steampunk, players know their eventual fate from the get go and will use a deck of cards to either cheat fate, or accept what's coming. Ages 13+
7 - 10 PM
- Fate with GM Law. Fate is a flexible system that can support just about anything, and tonight will be bringing to life Candy Punk. "In a world where everything is sugar, victory has never been sweeter. Candypunks are rebels that battle against the megacorp of Dextroz, who rules Fondant City with a hard candy fist." Ages 16+
- Mothership with GM Rowan. Mothership is an award-winning sci-fi horror RPG. The terraforming colony on Samsa VI has lost communication and the company has sent you to investigate what has happened to Greta Base. Discover the truth, or survive. Ages 16+
